Vibrantly coloured mid-17th century band sampler initialled SC. The sampler displays 14 distinct bands of decorative floral and figurative border designs followed by an uppercase alphabet and initials. The alternating bands worked in shades of blue, red and green coloured silk on a fine linen ground have retained exceptional original colour.
A fine example of a 17th century band sampler worked by Mary Whearly or Wharley in 1673, the sampler, which retains very good original colour and condition, is worked in vibrant coloured silk threads on a fine linen ground.
